Nurse giving a high five to a young patient

Music belongs
to every patient,
in every room.

Second Wind makes simple, adaptable tools that help people play music, no matter where they are or how they move. We work at the heart of music, medicine, and engineering to support every patient's independence and joy.

"We believe movement and music should be accessible to everyone."

We design simple, versatile tools that move with the body. With customizable design and multiple levels of support, we empower individuals to engage more freely and independently, guided by respect for patient dignity, clinical responsibility, and the transformative power of creative expression.

Our Tools

Designed for real clinical needs.

Each tool is built for a real need: from helping someone hold a drumstick to letting a patient play a kazoo safely.

Grip Assist

Helps you hold instruments, utensils, or any tool. Wraps around the hand, wrist, foot, or ankle. A zip-tie clasp keeps things secure so nothing slips.

Grip Assist Extended

Everything the Grip Assist does, plus an extra strap that anchors to the body for added strength and stability. Great for users who need a little more support.

Slide Whistle

A super easy instrument: just blow and slide! A plunger changes the pitch so you can play a full octave of notes. No musical experience needed.

Kazoo: Patient

Clips onto a pop tube so patients can play without removing their mask. A built-in filter keeps any airborne particles from escaping. Safe for isolation rooms.

Kazoo: Provider

Designed for nurses, therapists, and care providers. Same pop-tube system, plus a removable filter tray that can be swapped between patients to prevent cross-contamination.

Why It Works

Built for real life in the hospital.

Music Heals

Music therapy reduces anxiety, lifts mood, and supports recovery. Our tools make it possible for any patient, not just those healthy enough to leave their room.

Safety First

Every device is designed with infection control in mind: from built-in filters to swap-out trays. Playing music should never come at a clinical cost.

For Every Body

Whether a patient has limited grip, uses a wheelchair, or is in full isolation, our adaptive tools are built so everyone can take part.

Where music meets medicine.

"No hospital stay should mean the end of music or independence."

Second Wind is an organization that designs adaptive instruments and assistive tools for people in healthcare settings. Our team brings together engineers, musicians, occupational therapists, and care providers who believe creativity and healing go hand in hand.

Our tools were developed and tested in partnership with industry professionals at Boston Children's Hospital and Stanford Medical Center, ensuring every device meets real clinical standards before it ever reaches a patient.

Developed with the best.

From early prototypes to clinical testing, Second Wind was built alongside some of the most respected medical professionals and music therapists in the country. Their input shaped every detail of our tools.
